The Centenary Lecture with Professor Lesley Lokko

To celebrate 100 years since RIBA accredited its first course in Liverpool, the School of Architecture hosted a series of celebration events for alumni, staff, students, and supporters.

2024 marks 100 years of RIBA Validation with LSA first being validated in the year 1924. To celebrate and mark the occasion, the LSA, in collaboration with RIBA, hosted a keynote lecture by Professor Lesley Lokko, RIBA Gold Medallist 2024, discussing paradigm shifts in education and across the profession. Professor Lesley Lokko was introduced by Muyiwa Oki, RIBA President and Professor Ola Uduku, current Head of School at LSA.

The keynote lecture was complemented by a series of talks, alumni drinks receptions and tours of the new building to connect alumni with current staff and students, gain an insight into life at the School and hear about ambitions and plans for the future.

The programme included talks from current students on LSA alumni and their impact around the world, the launch of student magazine Palette, Professor Robert Nicholls (BArch 1953, MA 1954) discussing his career and time at Liverpool in the post-war years, and an introduction to the new School building extension currently under construction.

You can watch recordings of some of the events here and a photo gallery of the celebrations is available here.

Senior Lecturer, and one of a team of celebration organisers, Sandy Britton, said: “Here at the School we are proud of the achievements of our alumni community and enjoyed celebrating this important milestone with you. We hope to develop our relationships and build networks so alumni can continue to be an integral part of its future success, particularly as we look towards the opening of the new LSA building in 2025.

“It was also very special to welcome back Professor Robert Nicholls, who offered a unique insight into life at the School during the post-war years and how this prepared him for his varied architectural career journey across the globe.

“We are inviting our LSA alumni to share their journeys since graduation by completing our online form and these will be showcased on the school web pages. We look forward to keeping in touch”.
