Veterinary Alumni Research Participants Needed
We have two opportunities for alumni to engage with research at the School of Veterinary Science. One is aimed at shaping the trajectory of veterinary education and a second explores the impact of Schwartz Rounds.
Shaping the Future of Veterinary Education
The School of Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool is embarking on a pioneering research study aimed at shaping the trajectory of veterinary education, and they are asking veterinary alumni and employers of veterinary graduates to play a pivotal role.
As alumni and employers of veterinary graduates, your perspectives are crucial in defining the qualities that should characterise a successful graduate from Liverpool's vet school. Your invaluable insights will directly influence the evolution of the curriculum, ensuring that it remains relevant and responsive to the needs of the profession. Join the School of Veterinary Science in this exciting endeavour to shape the future of veterinary education!
They are seeking participation from:
- Alumni who have been qualified for 1-5 years
- Alumni with over 5 years of experience
- Graduate employers
- Specialists and generalists across all species areas
- Non-clinical professionals (industry, academia etc.)
Participants will engage in a 90-minute online focus group discussion scheduled at their convenience. Rest assured, anonymity is paramount, and discussions will be transcribed without revealing individual identities.
Contributions from participants will directly shape the curriculum, not only at Liverpool's Vet School but within the broader veterinary education community. Engaging in this vital first phase is transformative, and even if you are unable to participate in the focus groups, you can stay tuned for phase two – a survey will be circulated later this year. Involvement from all stakeholders is key to ensuring the continued excellence of veterinary education.

Exploring the Impact of Schwartz Rounds in Veterinary Practice
Have you ever attended Schwartz Rounds? For those in the veterinary profession, this reflective platform holds particular significance as it offers a space to openly discuss the emotional and social aspects of our work.
At the University of Liverpool School of Veterinary Science, Schwartz Rounds have been a regular offering since 2019. Both staff and students have participated, finding them to be beneficial in processing the unique stresses of their profession.
Now, researchers at the University are delving deeper into the impact of Schwartz Rounds on clinical practice. They aim to understand how attending these sessions may influence the way veterinarians and vet nurses approach their work.
"We are looking to reach out to any vets or vet nurses that have attended Schwartz Rounds and are working in clinical practice," says Rob Campbell, veterinary surgeon at the University of Liverpool Small Animal Practice, who is leading the research. By gathering insights from those who have experienced these rounds firsthand, Rob hopes to uncover valuable insights that could inform future support initiatives within the veterinary community.
